Emily + Kyle

Blockhouse in Portland, Oregon

Emily and I go way back to middle school, where we bonded over our shared love of art and similar sense of humor. So, when she asked me to photograph her wedding to Kyle in our hometown of Portland, Oregon, I was honored and thrilled. Emily and Kyle have this incredible connection, and their story is just as unique as they are.

They actually met in middle school, but it wasn’t until after college that they reconnected and realized how much they had in common. Emily is a full-time artist with a talent for finding beauty in everything, and Kyle, who works at Apple, shares her passion for creativity and adventure. Speaking of adventure, Kyle proposed at the iconic Edinburgh Castle in Scotland—he’s been to 18 countries and counting!

The wedding took place at Blockhouse, an intimate greenhouse garden venue in downtown Portland. It was the perfect setting, with its lush greenery creating a cozy and enchanting atmosphere. I always love smaller weddings because you can feel the closeness between everyone there, and this day was no exception.

Guests came from far and wide to celebrate Emily and Kyle, including two all the way from Australia! Family played a big role in their day, too. Emily is incredibly close to her brother and cousin, and both were part of the wedding party, standing by her side with so much love and pride.

Portland weather gave us a good dose of its signature rain nearly all day. That said, in what can only be described as perfect timing, the rain stopped right when it came time for the bride and groom portraits. We were able to step into the gardens, where the plants and flowers created the most magical backdrop.

Emily’s artistic eye shone through in every part of the day—from the whimsical decor to the sumptuous autumn color palette. Everything about the wedding felt authentic to who they are as a couple, which isn’t something you see every day. She even designed the invites and signage herself!

I’m so grateful to have been a part of this meaningful day. Emily and Kyle, your love is real—and I can’t wait to see what other adventures life holds for you.

Here’s to a lifetime of laughter, art, travel, and many beautiful surprises along the way. Cheers to you!
