Outfit Tips For Your Engagement or Portrait Session

  • A woman and a man dancing together outdoors, holding hands and smiling at each other in a forest with trees and fallen leaves.

    01) Coordinate Colors.

Colors can look great together without looking too “matchy matchy” or have JC Penny portrait studio vibes, because they actually don’t have to be the exact same color. The same color family always works well which is what Andrea and Josh did here!

  • A couple with closed eyes and their noses touching, about to kiss, outdoors with a blurred green foliage background.

    02) Wear complementary patterns.

If solid colors aren’t your thing, wear a pattern that doesn’t take away from your partner’s outfit. Here, Duncan’s plaid shirt worked amazing with Hannah’s solid dress.

  • A young man and woman holding hands and facing each other in a parking lot with tall buildings in the background, both smiling.

    03) Keep the location in mind.

Make sure the outfits fit the location you want. Are you going for a rustic feel in the woods? Then sticking to neutral colors is your best bet. Are your photos downtown with an urban vibe? Then brighter colors or a more “formal” look would be great. Here, Mandy and Zach combined their love of 80’s fashion with their city shoot.

What not to wear:

  • Shirts with huge logos or a ton of words.

  • Super short skirts.

  • Neon or fluorescent colors.

  • Anything that doesn’t express who YOU really are.
